Who Will Be Our Club Champion For 2008?

It's a close count and it's always a hard decision, What makes it so special? Well Taekwondo Central has now some 250 members involved with the club and from that our club produces large amounts of State and Australian and International Champions every year, so picking the person who really excels is not an easy task as every year we have many students who we could hand the trophy to and be very happy with our decision. Each year the person who has won the prestigious award has just showed that special little extra talent, tried that extra in training and got the results to back it up. The year they were chosen they showed great integrity, respect and were a great role models to others.

Fantastic Response from "Relay For Life" Demonstration

We have had some amazing comments back from the Relay for life demo, with all our members involved putting on an amazing display of Martial Arts Prowess. Starting off with Ben Buxton breaking a board with a Backflip kick and flowing to some great board breaking, self defence and kicking demonstrations. Donny The Little Dragon was a huge success with the kids, giving out stickers and recieving many warm hugs from many children getting involved in the cancer fundraising event. Donny was also reunited with his mate Doopa the Dog after they first met at last years Worsley Alumina Christmas tree celebration.

We would like to thank all of the team who donated their time to the event, we were told just under $300 000 were raised over the whole weekend.

Capoeira Seminar. (Brazilian Dance Martial Art)

In the ongoing tradition of or martial arts club of not being single minded and sticking to one martial art system of Taekwondo
we would like to offer the opportunity for our members to get involved with the Brazilian Dance Martial Art of Capoeira, we are very fortunate to have been extended an invitation to get involved and learn some of this amazing martial art on Saturday Morning - 1st November at 9am.

Capoeira is an amazing acrobatic style of self defence that was developed as a fighting system hidden within dance moves so Brazilian Slaves could learn to protect themselves without their masters realising. Anyone interested can you please let me know by Friday night training in Bunbury so we can give an approximate number to the organisers.
Capoeira practitioners also learn traditional Brazilian style instruments and singing. It going to be great fun and a great learning experience for any Taekwondo Central members interested

Success & Failure have their role

Most people think that failure is bad and success is good. Lets change your thinking about that if you fall into that category. I will give you that failure isn't fun and success is, but I think the following is true: Both failure and success are good... if you know what their specific purpose is.

Of course we know that success is good, but why? Success is good because it confirms things for us.

Success confirms our plans.
Success confirms our decisions.
Success confirms our resources.
Success confirms our strategies.
Success confirms our hunches.
Success confirms our teamwork.
Success confirms our risks.
Success confirms a lot of things!

So when you are successful, ask yourself the following question: What does this success confirm in my mind?

Now, what about failure? What is the role of failure and how in the world can it be GOOD? Failure's role is to teach us. We learn from failure.

Failure teaches us that we need to change our plans.
Failure teaches us that we need to change our decisions.
Failure teaches us that we need to change our resources.
Failure teaches us that we need to change our strategies.
Failure teaches us that we need to change our hunches.
Failure teaches us that we need to change our teamwork.
Failure teaches us that we need to change our risks.
Failure teaches us that we need to change a lot of things!

But at least now we know one more thing that won't work! With every failure, we learn one more way we can abandon and focus in on what may be the correct way in the future! When we look at it that way, we set ourselves up for a powerfully successful future! So when you fail, ask yourself this question: What does this failure teach me? Remember, Success and Failure are both good. They can both be your friend... If you know what role they are to play in your life. Learn From Failure and Confirm with Success

3 Gold from 6 Competitors at Taekwondo Australia National Championships in Sydney

Well done to our team of representatives from the Australian Taekwondo Championships held over the last week in Sydney's Homebush Stadium who returned with 3 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze from just 6 competitors. With many of our guns not competing this time due to the International Competitions we have had success in this year, our team did us very proud and kept our clubs performance reputation intact and raising our Australian Champions number to 58 trained since 1999.

Dalyellups Ross Delport (Pictured) was the gun of the team winning 4 fights to take out the Australian Sparring Title. Unfortunately Ross had accidentally been put up a weight group which left him as the lightest and smallest competitor in his division. Ross had to fight the previous 2 time undefeated Australian Champion from Queensland who easily qualified through on the other side of the draw to set up a final between between the 2 Taekwondo Champions.

With 10 seconds remaining at the end of the fight, Ross found himself a point down until he landed a sharp counterkick to score some 3 seconds before the end of the fight making the scores tied at 3 All, taking the competition to sudden death round (Next points wins). Justin and Ross then set up a stratagy to expose the Queenslanders weekness which proved to be the down fall of Ross's opponent and giving Ross the victory after landing a strong chest kick that scored and won Ross the Australian Title.

Australind Taekwondo Central student Liam Heidt (Pictured right) also took out the gold on his first attempt by frustrating his opponent and landing some very strong attack kicks to take out the Australian Title

Medal Winners Were
GOLD -
Ross Delport (Dalyellup), Liam Heidt (Australind), Katy Jones (Burekup)
SILVER - Lorelle Klumpp
(Roelands)
BRONZE - Ajana Plunkett
(Burekup)

Great News From A Possible Abduction Tragedy

We are very thankfull, that a possible tragedy had a great turn around in Fremantle recently, One of our Little Dragons from Eaton had a scary experience from a Snatch and Grab attempt, We are so proud of this young mans quick reaction in escaping - based from a game we play in our Little Dragons Classes. Blakes reactions got him to safety.

We would like to thank mum for the feedback also, we fully believe in the skills we teach, but its even better to see they sunk in and are usable by young children to protect themselves. We hope that young Blake is ok and his confidence still intact, and like to congratulate him on reacting quickly & correctly. Well Done Buddy.

Blake is the second student from our Little Dragons to escape this type of predator attack, the other was some 4 years ago when a younger Crispin foiled a possible grab attempt in which he used our "Chop Off" defence to escape harm in local Australind. Its a reminder that you must always think of your own safety

Are You Our Next Super Parent???

Tanya Howlett (Pictured above with Tournament Director) has become Taekwondo Centrals next Super Parent after winning the World Taekwondo Culture Expo in Korea for the Red Belt Division, Tanya defeated U.S.A. in the final when Tanya hunted out her opponents weekness and then attacked until the referee stopped the fight before the end of the round. The Aggressive Style was too overwhelming for her opponent, with Tanya's speed and power leaving her dumbfounded and wondering what just hit her. Tanya's son and Leadership Team member AJ Ashley Howlett also returned with Gold.

Tanya now steps up into an evergrowing number of parents starting Taekwondo with their children as a bonding exercise and are finding their passion for the sport too. In the Past the club has produced a number of Australian Champion Parents including

Lorelle Klumpp - 3 time Australian Champion
Les Davies - 2 time Australian Champion
Peter Hill - 2 time Australian Champion
John Stewart - Australian Champion

Donny The Little Dragon a hit at Grand Cinemas Bunbury

Donny was very well received at the Bunbury Grand Cinema Complex, with handouts and a crew to hang out with made it a fun time for all. Thanks to our Leadership Team Members who come down to lend a hand. Thanks to Blair & Lorelle for helping Donny. We have bumped into many people who said they saw him at the cinema complex. Donny was a big hit with some of the real small kids who followed him around waving at him and giving giant hugs.

New Electronic Chestguard, Our Sports Future

While in Turkey for Jasmine at The World Junior Taekwondo Championships, we were lucky enough to see a display of the Electronic Chestguard that are the sporting future of Taekwondo. below are the pics we took of them. For the competitors selected in the upcoming Oceanic Championship, you will get to use them.

Story taken from Otago Times (New Zealand)

Taekwondo has embraced the electronic age to make its sport simpler. The Korean martial art has long entrusted judging to the human eye. Two fighters roam the ring and four judges are positioned around the edges to note when clean hits are made. But now, taekwondo is going high-tech.

"It takes the human element right out of the scoring side of things. You have to hit the pad with significant force. "That creates an electronic pulse, which goes back to the computer and scores the point." Unfortunately human judges often missed clean hits. In the current system, three of the four judges have to register a hit by either fighter for a point to be awarded.

The electronic pads can be set according the ability of the fighter, so a flyweight will not have to hit them as hard as a heavyweight in order to score a point.

The pads will likely be used at the next Oceania championships, expected to be held in Auckland at the end of the year.
